My true love!

Showchoir is my true love. I love performing, the rush you get and everyone clapping for you, it's amazing. I go to Kennedy Highschool and am in their varsity showchoir called Happiness inc. We are getting very close to starting our competition season...im super excited!!!

It will be my first year competing as a part of the group, Happiness inc. This is a moment i have been dreaming about ten years old. My sister and brother both went to Kennedy Highschool. My sister was in showchoir her junior and senior year. I was her biggest fan, I watched every show and went to many of her practices. I would look up at her and say that was going to be me some day. After my sister graduated my brother became a freshman and was is in the freshmen group, her was so good and i watched him also grow through out the showchoir program. Then it was my turn.

I have now been in showchoir at Kennedy for three years and it has been the best time of my life. Make the groups each year felt amazing but when i made Happiness it was like a dream come true. I have grown with the other people in the group. We are all a family, not just Happiness but all of us. we cheer eachother on and want the best for eachother.

I am so excited for our season to start. We have two concerts on January 10th and 11th at kennedy and  out first competition is on the 12th at Linnmar highschool. i hope to see you guys there and i will be sure to keep you updated on how we do through out the season. Wish us good luck!

New Years!(:

When i think new years i think sparkly and shiny outfits!!(:

Sooo i thought i would show you guys some cute outfits i like and great stores to go to, to find your perfect outfits. when you pick your out fit for new years you have to keep in mind what you will be doing so you know if you need to dress it up or be more relaxed. I also want to tell you guys what new years means to me.

Express- an awesome store for new years shopping. They have tons of cute dresses perfect for the occasion.

This purple sequin dress is super cute and good for the more dressed up parties. It is only $64.00 and also comes in back!(:

This sequin top is for the more casual party...it might get a little chilly but you can always add a cut cardigan to spice it up! This top is only $39.90. I would mix it with black skinny jeans and black boots...and of course super cute jewlry.

This cute dress is from spool72.com it is super cute and I would definantly say it is a great style for new years. Mix it with jewlry and some cute tall boots and you will be the cutest girl at the party.

For new years I think it is all about spending times with the ones you love. Remembering the amazing memories you have made throughout the past year and the new friends you have made. With the rest, dont have regrets, only have learning experiences and move on. The new year is about resolutions, goals that you want or would like to achieve with in the next year. Live happy, love , and move on.

My name is memory

I have been reading a book called, My Name is Memory. i am only about half way through but i thought i would let you know what i think so far.

My name is memory is an adult fiction love story that pulls you in and make you want to keep reading so well. I am only halfway and I am already tangled in the love story. the love story is between a man named Daniel and a women named Sophia. It goes through out there long love story sad and happy. it is a very kind of up and down, back and forth novel but it is not hard to follow.

Daniel spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, nomatter how many miles apart they ended up, despite the changing of her name and looks they have been drawn together, and he remembers it all. He remembers every memory of theirs, from every life. Daniel has "the memory", the ability to recall past lives and recognize the souls of the people he has previously known from other lives. It is a gift and a curse. Their love is amazing and painful at the same time. Their love is beautiful, but there is never enough time. She forgets and they have to start over everytime.

Through out the novel Daniel and Sophia's unraveling present relationship is inter woven with there history and love since 552 Asia Minor to 1918 England and 1972 Virginia. Their love is to strong to just forget. They go through long, dangerous paths to find each other time and time again. But just when young Sophia (now "Lucy" in the present) finally begins to awaken to the secret of their shared past, and she starts to understand the real reason for their attraction, her fear pushes him away and seems to tear them apart.
So thats how far i am but i will deffinantly let you know how it ends. I would recommend this book to older highschoolers just because it can be a little hard to follow. Altogether it is an amazing so far and you should read it.

Long lost Family

Hey guys!

So last summer I probably took the most exciting trip of my life and I thought I would tell you about it!

My dad is from Mexico and came here when he was 18 and most of his family still lives in Mexico, but he does have a sister who lives in Idaho and a Brother in Pennsylvania. So this summer my dad and I took a 22 hour long drive to Idaho. It was so much fun, the ride there was beautiful! I was the farthest I have ever been from home. I saw so many animals on the way therre that I had never seen before, vlike mountain lions and gazelles. I also saw the gorgeous mountains! I had never seen mountains before that so ofcourse I took tons of pictures.

We got to my aunts house in about 24 hours...my dad drove all the way through without sleeping. You could say he is crazy! We got there and I was pretty nervous I had never met any of them before except one of my cousins, Jaime. We got there and Jaime walked us in, we got settled in our rooms and then my aunt got home. My dad called me to come meet her. I was so nervous because I knew she didnt speak english but also because I wanted her to like me. She was so nice but it was hard not knowing the whole time what she was saying and not being able to really talk to her. It did help a lot though that my cousins spoke english because they were like my personal translators. I met 3 cousins, Lupe, Danny, Julian, and I met Jaime's wife and 3 daughters and my aunt and uncle.

I cant wait until I can talk to my aunt all by myself and understand what she says to me without others help. It means so much to esprcially because I would like to be able to talk to my grandma (my dads mom) because she is getting old and my dream is to be able to meet her or have a conversation with her befor its to late.

My aunt made us tons of delicious athentic mexican food, like tamales. We had tons of movie nights and got to know each othere tons. My cousin Jaime's little girls were so cute they called me 'Tia sari' which means like aunt Sara. I miss them so much.

My dad and I stayed there for two weeks and then on the last two days we went to a water park, bowling, go carting, and did bowlingg it was so much fun and I cried when we had to leave. It was really hard to go but im so excited to go back next summer for my cousins wedding!! (:

Thank you

Thank You. It's something that most of us don't say often enough. I know I don't. Especailly to my parents. Think of all the things that they do for you. How may times do you stop to tell them how much you appreciate what they do for you and for that matter, do you even really know?

My dad goes to work every day of the week...7 days a week. Yep, he doesn't have one day off during the week. That's because he is a horse rancher/farmer. Being a farmer is a 7 day a week job. There is always something to do and its a dirty job. My dad works hard so that we don't have to go without. He works during the daylight hours and then comes home and works some more. When I need a ride somewhere, because I don't have my drivers liscense yet, he takes me. He helps me with my Spanish homework. When I'm scared, he is there to hold my hand.

My mom works hard too. She only has to work Monday through Friday, but when she is done each day, she comes home to make dinner, clean the house, help with home work, do laundry...and the list goes on. Not only that but she volunteers at school. She is our show choir Parent Rep for Happiness. She helps make the costumes, organizes everything for the competitions, sends out communications to all the parents, types the newsletter and many more things that I'm sure I don't even know about. Not only do my parents do this for me, but they do it for my brother and sister as well.

I for one have a lot to be thankful to them for. (411)

Guns

Hey guys!

So I think we have all heared lately about the Conneticut elementry school shooting, the mall shootings, the Kansas city football player shooting, and casino shooting inVegas. It is so very sad and my prayers go out to all the families.

My question is what will the USA now do about this? My personal opinion is that if the people of America cant handle guns or use them the right way they shouldn't be aloud to have them. Truely, how many people have to die before something is done.

What are they going to do to make children feel safe again because I sure as hell do not feel safe at school or outside of my home anymore. I attend Kennedy High School and since the day I have gone there, we have never had a lock down drill...is that supposed to make us feel safe or our parents feel okay when they send us off to school and put our lives in to the hands of the school staff? It seems that this school in Conneticut had security provisions in place but this crazy person got in anyway. And let's talk about the guns he had. They were his mothers. Why would a woman need assult guns? Having a hand gun in a home as protection is one thing but the guns they had surely had no business in a home or being used for personal use.

Is making guns illegal the right thing to do? Will that really stop the guns from showing up on the street? It's just like marajuana. Tha'ts illegal too but I wonder how hard it would be to walk down the halls of my school and find some. Is it the gun...or is it the people who have the guns? Is there really a good answer to this problem? Time will tell I guess.(334)

Family

Hey guy!

So my family is a super important thing to me and so when we get a chance to all get together it's always a fun time. My family is from Wisconsin so obviously we LOVE the Packers. Weekends are huge for us during the football season because not only are we Packer fans, we are also Badger fans. Every weekend we have different traditions that we follow. On Saturday, the women hurry and clean the house. The whole while and the men do whatever it is they do outside. Then once the college games start, it's to the living room to watch the big games. On Sundays, my and sister and I wake up early to get started on the food. We make tons of snack foods like guyacamole with chips, cheese, meat and chracker tray, little smokies, bacon wrapped watter chestnuts, mozarella sticks and much more. Then we all grab a plate and gravitate to the living room to watch the Packer game. Then depending on the time of the game, we take naps. With all the snacks in the house, we get to eat all day long and just have fun. Throughout the day there are claps and screams coming from the living room. Game days are so fun in the Solorio house and really intense.

But, the best part of it all...is New Years Day. Usually the Badgers are playing in a bowl. This time the entire family gathers at my aunts house. That's my family, my moms brothers and their families, my grandparents, my great aunt's and uncles and my great grandfather who turned 92 years old on December 7th, Pearl harbor day. Everyone brings a snack food to share with everyone. But the part that is the best is the food yet to come. The mem all gather in the garage around a seafood boiler. They make a seafood boil like you can't imagine. It's small baby potatoes, baby onions and carrots, shrimp, crab, fish, scallops and lobster tails all cooked together. Then they bring it in the house in big roasters once it's done cooking and we all dig in. You put melted butter over it and enjoy along with all the other great foods that have been prepared to go with it. Then when we are done eating, we clean up and get ready for a good game of Solo. It's a card game that not very many have ever heard of and that I would never be able to explain in a blog. It's one of those games that you just have to jump I and play to understand. Everyone stays all day and then goes home for the evening, fat, sassy and ready for a good nights sleep! (459)

Memory books (:

Hello people!!

So I have an amazing boyfriend that ive been dating for 2 years and we have tons of little things like tickets from our first movie that we saw together and tons of notes that we have given eachother. So one day i was going through the box of things that i had from him and i decided i wanted something i could look at all the time and show other people and keep our little note in good shape. so i decided i wated to kind of make a picture book but i wanted to personalize it and i wanted the cover to also represent us. so i have little things like music notes because we are both in show choir and virgo and cancer because im a virgo and he is a cancer. I also have JFK on the side because that is where we go to highschool. I filled it with school dance pictures, pictures of us, our notes and little things he has made me. I still have lots of room in it and so i continue to put things in it so once we get older i will have a book of memories from our relationship since it started.

The first thing you need to do to make one of these is to buy the necessary products, they are all pretty cheap.
  • Any size photograpgh book that you want.
  • Magazines
  • stickers
  • glue stick
  • glitter
  • and decorations you want (not 3D decorations)
  • Mod podge (you can get at any craft store)
First you cut out of the magzine any backgrounds, letters, anything that you want on your book to personalize it. Then glue it on the book where ever you want. I would do one side at a time. Once your done with that take a paitbrush and paint a layer of mod podge over what you glued down and let it sit and dry. Then do the othersides over laping things on the corners because you dont want random lines. You want it to look like a collage and relate to the pictures that you are going to put inside of it. If you want sparles on it, before you let it dry sprinkle the sparkles on it and then let it dry. Once it is dry put one more coat of mod podge over it (or as many needed for all the papers to stick down and not start to peel off) and let it sit over night until it is completely dry. Then fill the book with picture and any memories you want. you can always add more to it as you get older. Now all that left is to enjoy and share with others. (: (464)

Christmas cookies!

Hello guys!!

So I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas cookies!! So I thought I would share with you my families special favorite Christmas cookies that we enjoy every christmas! :)

Sprits Cookies are my moms favorites. They are cookies that are made using a cookie press. A cookie press is a manual machine that you put the cookie dough into and then squeeze it out through plates that have different cuts in which create different shapped cookies. The dough is made in different Christmas colors like green and red. We make Christmas trees, wreaths and other fun Christmas shapes.

My father loves just about any kind of cookie, but is most favorite is a cookie that the recipe has been handed down for many generations on my moms side of the family. My great great grandmother made an oatmeal raisin cookie but it's a little different than the kind you are probably used to. These cookies are ground. We use a hand grinder to gride up the oatmeal and raisins prior to adding the rest of the ingredients and baking. My dad loves to have these in the mornings with his coffee but we don't make them other than around the Christmas holidays.

My sister's favorite of course are the cut out cookies. They are a sugar cookie and for her, the best part is decorating them. She loves to draw and paint, so she has fun creating new designs on each cookie. The only problem is that she is a perfectionist, so it takes her FOREVER to finish them.

My brother loves the Mexican Wedding cakes. They are small cookies that have pecans in them. They are rolled into balls and then baked. Once they finish baking, they are put into powdered sugar. The powdered sugar coats them and turns them white.

My favorite Christmas cookie is the sunbakkel. It's a Norwegian cookie. My grandmother is 100% Norwegian and loves to intruduce us to new things. These cookies are made in sunbakkel tings which look sort of like small pie pans but they are only about 3 inchies in diameter. The cookie dough is put in the tins and pressed around the sides and the bottom of the tin creating what looks like a small cup after its baked. They are YUMMY!! (382)

What makes you, you?

Hey!!
Everyone knows that we take after our parents in looks and charachteristics, but do you think that we do when it comes to likes and dislikes? Or is it just an environmental thing. For instance, if you grown up with a parent who does not like carrots, they probably won't cook them for you. So you probably wouldn't get the opportunity to eat them as a kid and you would probably hear your parent make statements about how bad carrots taste. So the first time you try them, you don't like them. Do you think it's because you were told your whole life that they tasted bad or is it because you have something in your make up that dictates that you won't like them?

My mom grew up in a house wher her mother was a person who always had a very clean house. Her mother also spent time sewing and crafting. As an adult my mother also enjoys sewing and crafting and she spends a lot of time cleaning up after everyone so the house is clean. Will I grow up to be the same way? Is it a generational characteristic in my family to like clean houses, sewing and crafting?

Genetics is an interesting topic. What makes us who we are and why. I have brown eyes because both my parents have brown eyes. But why do my brother and sister both have blue eyes? It's becaue my grandmother is Norwegian and they typically are blonds and have blue eyes. My grandmother has blue eyes. My grandfather is German and they are typically dark haired and brown eyed. My grandfatherhas brown hair and brown eyes. But his father had blue eyes! What?? And my mothers Norwegian brothers and sisters have everything from brown hair, to red and blond and blue, green and brown eyes. Some day I'll made a graph and study how it all fits to gether. Is't just like a jigsaw puzzle. (327)

Picture Day!

Hey guys!

So our picture day is this Thursday and I thought I would share with you all what I think of picture day.

Picture day to me seems like a day everything kind of goes wrong. A day you try so so hard to look great for a picture that everyone sees for years and years to come. They show it to their family and look back on it when they are older. Somehow no matter how hard we try, our picture never seems to look the way we want it. Maybe its our insecurities coming out of us, being selfconcious or just our picture not looking that great. Its a good thing they came up with the touchups they can do on the pictures otherwise there would be a lot more random hairs sticking up and one day zits that just happen to pop up on picture day. I have yet to find someone who is just really good at taking school pictures.

I think its really funny when kids do things like pass around the same purple sweatshirt for tons of guys to wear and then there is a sea of purple pictures through out the year book. (This happened at our school last year.) It's also always surprising how many kids forget that it's picture day and come to school in their pajama pants or with no make up. Oops! Then there are all those who end up having to have a second take becaue they didn't like the first one.

I'm sure that on the flip side, the photographer viewpoint of this day is less than spectacular as well. An average of 1000 kids all with different personalities and attitudes getting their photos taken. Sit, turn, tilt, smile, Cheese! Sit, turn, tilt, smile, Cheese, 1000 times over. Why aren't they listening to me? Can't they hear me? If they don't pay attention, we're going to be doing this until midnight!

Fortunately it only happens once a year. It's a pain, but it's a good thing, I guess. It's for the future...so we aren't forgotten. (349)

Christmas everywhere! (:

Hello!!!

Christmas is getting so close so I thought I would talk about Christmas traditions of a few other countries and some of my own families traditions.

We all know how the people of the United States celebrate Christmas.

China -The Christians in China light their homes with beautiful paper lanterns. Santa is called Dun Che Lao Ren. The children hang stockings just as we do.

England- We have gotten many of our christmas customs from england. One of there things are our christmas trees. There are some stories of this starting because the king and queen. In england instead of mailing out their christmas list, children throw it into the fireplace and Father Christmas reads the smoke. England is also where the tradition of hanging stockings by the chimney began, due to the fact that Father Christmas(Santa) once accidentally dropped some gold coins on his way down the chimney which got caught in a drying stocking. Another interesting thing is that instead of opening up their gifts as soon as they wake up, English children wait until the afternoon.

France- In France Santa is known as Pere Noel. He has a partner called Pre Fouettard who keeps track of who has been good or bad for Pere Noel. In some parts of France, Pere Noel brings small gifts on december 6th and comes back to deliver more on Christmas. In France the children get to open their presents on Christmas, but the parents and other adults have to wait until New Years. In France the children sometimes set their shoes in front of the fire place hoping that Pere Noel might leave gifts in their shoes for them. They also have dinner at midnight on December 24 that is called Le Reveillon.

Mexico- In mexico they call christmas Navidad. They celebrate christmas by having a posada, it a is a time when people dress up as Mary and Joseph going aroud asking if mary can stay there. They ar e told that there is no room and shut the door but the door then opens back up and they are invited in for songs, food, and a piñata for the kids. The celebration lasts nine days and on the ninth day they are told there is room for mary and they go to church and celebrate Jesus's birth.

My family celebrates by all going to my grandparents house over break. This year Christmas is on a Tuesday, so we will travel to Wisconsin to my grandparents home on Saturday. We'll probably relax Saturday afternoon. My grandmother always puts up a large Christmas tree that has to be real. She has many homemade ornaments, but one special one...a pickle. She and my grandfather always hide a pickle ornament in the Christmas Tree and everyone has to try and find it without touching the tree. The story is, whoever finds it will have an extra present under the tree. Sunday will be a day for the men to go deer hunting while the women make lefse. My grandmother is 100% Norwegian. My grandfather is 100% German. My grandmother tries to integrate both nationalities in the holidays. Lefse is a Norwegian food, kind of like a tortilla. It's made out of potatoes. Sunday afternoon will be a cookie baking day. Yum! Monday is Christmas Eve. My uncles will come to my grandparents home with my cousins for the day. All the kids will hopefully get to be outside building show forts.

My mom grew up in Wisconsin where there is usually a lot of snow, more than there is here. She is a pro at building snow forts. When she was younger, the snow forts took up the entire front yard at my grandparents. That evening, everyone will get dressed up and go to the Christmas Eve service at church. My cousins who are still in gradeschool are all in the childrens program. It's always fun to see if we can get a bag of goodies that is meant for the kids on our way out of church. It's usually full of fruit, peanuts and candies. Then we go home where my grandmother has an already prepared seafood chowder for us to eat. It's amazing! After the late dinner, we get to open the gifts that are in our stockings. Then of course, it's always a rush for my little cousins to gto home and into bed because Santa Clause will be there soon. Christmas Day, everyone gathers back at my grandparents home sometime late morning after they have opened their gifts from Santa. We then get to eat lutefisk and the lefse that was made a couple days earlier. This is another Norwegian food. You take the Lefse and butter one side. Then you take a boiled potato and mash it onto the lefse. Next goes the lutefisk which is a fish. Then you roll it up like a burrito and eat it. It's not something that everyone likes but we all try it. We also have either some German food with that or whatever my grandfather wants which is usually ham. Then we all migrate to the livingroom to open our gifts. There is usually a couple football games mixed in there somewhere too. Then we wait a week until New Years. New Years Day is also a seafood day. All the mean cook a seafood boil which consists of potatoes, carrots, onions, shrimp, cod, scallops and whatever other seafood they decide to add. Everyone brings a dish to pass. We eat, play cards and watch football, usually the Wisconsin Badgers playing in the Rose Bowl. (936)

Pumpkin carving!

Hey guys!

So today I carved pumpkins with my boyfriends family and it was super fun, frustrating and tiring all at the same time. So I thought I would tell you guys how to carve pumpkins and maybe give a few tips to make it easier for you.

The first thing you need to do is get the supplies. You can get these usually at like a walmart or a target. You will need plastic to lay on your floor or table, newspaper would work just as well. Then you need the carving kits usually they have these that come with a book of designs to put on the pumpkin. The carving knives, pokers, and scoop to scoop out the pumpkins insides.

The next thing you will need to do is pick a pumpkin. You can get these from almost any grocery store or you can go to a pumpkin farm. You want to pick a pumpkin that will best fit your design, if you already have it picked out. If its a big design or like words you might want a taller pumpkin with a flater side or if its small you could do a smaller, rounder one.

After you have the perfect pumpkins picked out the next thing to do is to take a big strong knife and cut a lid around the handle. You want it big enough to dig out the insides but not to big. Then you half to do the worst part in my opinion, scrape and dig out the insides. Once you have it empty enough to your liking you tape on your paper with the design. Because a pumpkin is never going to fit perfectly to your paper you just have to kind of mold the paper on there as best you can. It is okay if its not perfect.

Then you use the poker and poke little dots all around your design. Once you have all the design traced you then cut along the dots and pop out the pieces. You might have to do little touch ups at the end. Once it is to your liking you can take one or two candles, according to how bright you want it and put them in your pumpkin. Then when you have it in the right spot outside, you can stand back and watch your beautiful creation glow.

Hope you enjoy carving pumpkins as much as I did.(408)

Halloween soon! :)

Hello fellow bloggers

Since it is getting really close to Halloween I thought I would tell you guys about one of my favorite scary movies and give a little summary.

One of my favorite older scary movies is When a Stranger Calls. Its not your typical gory movie. It actually has a little more action. It is about a girl who is probably around like 17. She goes to babysit for a rich family in this gigantic house. When she gets there, they show her around a little and then set the alarm and leave. She is left in the house alone with the kids who are upstairs sleeping. The phone rings and she answers, but no one responds. Then her friend calls and stops by at the house because she wants them to go to the school bonfire together. But the girl says no and that she has to stay and babysit. So the friend leaves. The girl then keeps getting phone calls from a unknown number but when she answers it, all she hears is breathing on the other end. She then sees lights going on and off at the guest house and thinks that it is either the parents oldest son or their maid. She runs to the guest house not knowing what could be out there and its no one. But while she is there, she gets another call. She then relizes the person must be watching her because the gust house is a different number. She goes back to the main house, locks the door, sets the alarm and calls 911. The operator told her that the next time she gets the call, to try to keep them on the phone for more than 60 seconds and he would try to trace the call. The guy calls again and asks if she has checked on he children and hangs up. She runs upstairs to check and they were fine. Then she hears a noise from where the maid stays. She goes to the maids quarters and while there. she gets another call. She answers and screams for him to stop calling her but this time it's actually a cop. He says that he has traced the call...its from inside of the house (my favorite line of the whole movie).

She runs to the kids room and finds empty beds. She looks up to find the man who has been calling her hiding up on the rafters. She runs into the kids play room. He jumps down and tries to attack but she closes the door fast enough, locking it behind her. She finds the children hiding in a toy chest. She gets them out they climb out the window, walk along the roof and climb back into the house through another window that has like an indoor pond and bird sanctuary. She hides the kids behind a plant. Then she hides herself under a bridge that is over the water. But it doesnt work. He findes her. The kids see what is happening and they run out of the room with her as she locks the door and the guy inside of the pond/sanctuary room. The cops are on the way so they are waiting for them to get there when she notices a bird fly through the room. She realizes that he must have gotten out of the room because that is where the bird cam from. He's out and finds her again. She fights him again and is finally able to over come him. The police arive just in time to take him away.

This is one of my all time favorite movies because I don,t really think the fake monster gory stuff is scary. I think real life stuff that could actually happen is really scary. Some fake things can be scary as well, but real life things sometimes haunt me for days....

Happy soon to be Halloween!

Talk later!(660)

Getting close to Graduating :(

Hello!

As you get to the later years in highschool, questions come up. Like, What do I want to be when I'm older? How do I get there? What do I do now as a junior to get on the right track for what I want to be when I am older?

It has offically hit me that I should probably start thinking about this. So... I have been freaking out thinking that I needed to know where I am going and what I want to be. I made an appointment with my counselor thinking I haven't taken the classes I need for what I want to be and all that (just completely blowing things out of proportion). When I went to talk to my counseler she asured me that all I that is really important is that I do well and graduate from highschool and that it didnt really make a huge deal exactly what classes I take in highschool. She did tell me though that now would be a good time to start thinking about where I want to go to college and what I want to be. Also because I want to go to a community college in Florida for the first two years and then transfer to a university I need to research what classes I nee; to take in order to transfer to the school I want.

I am hoping to go to medical school and become a Pediatrician or an Obstetrician-Gynecologist; I cant decide ...but the great thing is that I dont have to yet.

So if you're in the same boat as me, don't worry, you have time.(276)

Corrupt Television

    Hello Fellow bloggers...
Think about the shows that you watched when you were younger and why you like themor why you are now to cool to watch them?
    I do..
I wonder why it was funny that the wolf couldn't catch the road runner or that he like almost died everytime. I wounder why am I to cool to watch disney channel. Honestly those are the best shows I think they are hilarious and not in the inappropriate dramatic, drunk, dummies, cheating and being whores, Jersey Shore kind of way or the highschool drama all about sex, Akward kind of way. But they are the real down to earth funny shows.
Personally I look at all the show on tv now a days even some kid show and wonder what the world is coming to. I mean should there really be sex, drama amd drugs all over shows that middle school kids mostly watch. All that is teaching them is that maybe everyone is doing it and if my favorite character is doing it on my favorite show than maybe I should be doing it to. Why are there honestly so many teen pregnancy shows also...all that is doing is making kids think if they can do it then maybe I can to, or that if there on Television for getting pregnant at sixteen maybe I could to. Well honestly you probably wont.
So many people talk about how there are so many teen pregnancies and drugs and fights and drama. Well maybe if the whold worl stopped incouraging it then there wouldnt be as much.
I honestly elieve televisionis corrupt and if we want a good future for generations to come how about we start with fixing that.(299)

Lepard Gecko

Hello again...
So I was talking to a friend at work on friday and she has two lepard geckos. She was telling me about how one of her geckos had dropped its tail which is when there tail falls off they do this when they get scarred as a defense meckanism...dont ask me whay lol because im not sure. I asked her why he had dropped his tail and she told me that her boyfriend had him sitting on top of his ipad and they were watching titanic together. I stopped her for a second confused. I said to her, “ so your telling me your boyfriend was watching titanic with your gecko”. She laughed and continued to tell me how her boyfriend dropped the ipad on accident which scared the gecko enough to drop its tail.
This started my want of a lepard gecko they are so cute and tiny.
So....
even though im pretty sure my parents would say no I have been researching how to take care of them. So I thought I would share what I have learned.
Some beginning facts that I have learned
  • the lepord gecko stores its nutrients in its tail so you can tell if it is being fed well is its tail is fat
  • always be creful with there tail because if you pull on it it will pop right off
  • it it is attact and its tail falls off but thepreditor doesnt eat its tail, the gecko will come back and eat its own tail to gain all of it nutrients back
  • when purchasing a lepord gecko you want to make sure that it doesnt have black around its mouth or in its mouth because that shows it has been infected
What do geckos eat?
  • Live super worms/ mealworms
  • Live crickets
  • Coat food in calcium so they absorb uv light better
What do they live in?
  • They should live in an aquarium that suits how many geckos you have or how big your gecko is
  • It is very important to have a water dish for them in there cage
  • They should also have other dishes for their food so it doesnt escape
  • One of the very important things to have is a cave for them to shed in otherwise they wont and it could cut off their circulation, it should have moss or even moist paper towel inside for it
  • They ned a hot side and a cool side, the hot side having his heat light
  • uv light over his whole tank
  • For baby gekos dont put sand or rocks in the bottom because they might eat it and they could get sick.
So this is so far what ive learned so far.(471)

The Hunger Games

Hello fellow blogger...

I watched The Hunger Games again today, for like the 10th time so I decided to let you guys know what I think.

I think that The Hunger Games is an amazing well put together story and movie. Not only is the movie very good at getting the story almost exactly right from the book but also I think they made very good choices for scenes and characters to play the parts.

I love how they chose the perfect place for Katniss's home it shows how poor they really were. I also like how the people cast from each district portrayed there attitudes to match how they lived like if they were rich or poor.

My favorite part that the movie showed, to me, just right was the paryt when they were presenting each pair from each district and how they got them ready. The movie pulls you in throughout the frendships and the betrayals, the deths and the heros. When I saw I could not stop watch the love story is one of the best I have seen, because it goes from them not even likeing eachother or trusting each other to them falling in love or so you think. It does get a little confusing though with if they really love eachother or if they are just doing it to help them servive but yoyu can tell they grow feelings for eachother and love eachother by the end.

I think that Jennifer Lawrance does an amazing job at playing Katniss. She shows how strong katniss is and how she will do anything to protect and take care of her family. She shows Katniss's firey personality, her love of hunting and skill with arrows. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson do an amazing job of showing the chemistry between Katniss and Peeta.

The movie left much to be desired. It dropped the immediate threats of the Capital and even the heaviness in each of the districts because of the government control. I am interested in seeing how the second film will pan out since everything the second movie should be based on was left out of the first movie. I cant wait to watch the second one. Ill be at the midnight premier... whose with me? :) (382)

College (Scary...)

Fellow Bloggers

I know that as a junior in high school, it's time that we start to think about colleges and what we want to be when we grow up. But in all actuality, it's a pretty big and scary decision. I have an older brother and sister and the decision for them was not easy either, Let me share what my concerns are.

I'll use my sister first as one examble. From the time she was little, she always knew that she wanted to go to school to be a doctor. When she was little, she had a toy doctors kit. Every weekend my parents had different ailments that she would cure. She definitely had an imagination. When she was in 6th grade, she went to College for Kids at Coe College over the summer. All of the classes that she took were biology classes which made her know even more that she wanted to be in the medical field. Then the summer of her 8th grade year, she took classes through the Belin Blank program at the University of Iowa. She stayed there for 3 weeks. This made her know that she definitely wanted to go to college. Her favorite classes in high school were Biology and Chemistry. The summer of her sophomore year of highschool, she did an internship for 2 weeks with our family doctor. She LOVED it.

She decided that she would take her general education classes at Kirkwood and then transfer out to a 4 year college. So, that's what she did. She graduated form Kennedy, and then went to Kirkwood. However, she didn't really enjoy it there. So after one year, she transferred to Iowa State. After two more years of schooling there, she ran into a road block. She wa about to enter her senior year of college, but had no clue what she wanted to be. She new medical, but couldn't decide on a career. She was majoring in Bio-Chemistry with a minor in genetics, but had no clue what she was going to do with that. So she decided to get some practical experience in the work field and take a short break from school. She started working at an assisted living center and really likes is. So much so that she has not yet gone back to school she plans to, but I think it scares her a little becaues she can't decide on a field.

My brother on the other hand is the opposite. He has been all over the board. When he was young, he was always burrying and digging up things in the yard. Can you guess what he wanted to be? Yep, an archeologist! That's all he could think of. He loved dinosaurs and history. Then as he got older, he learned that our grandfather was in the Army. So then he wanted to join the Army. Then he would go with my grandfather and uncles to work sometimes. They are in construction. My grandfather has always built houses and my uncles are archetectural engineers. So that's where he went next...engineering. But he found out how much math was involved in that and soon changed his mind. Math isn't his best subject.

One day he was at school watching Chanteurs practice their program and there were some boys that were struggling. He went up on stage and started helping them our. DING, DING, DING!!! That wasw it! He wanted to be a teacher! His entire life, he has always watched the History channel and the Discovery Channel. He would read books on history and could tell you anything about any of the wars. He now attends Mount Mercy University and is majoring in secondary education with a focus on history and music. It took him a while, but he figured it out!

So now it's my turn...and it's scary! It's a juge decision that impacts your entire life. I need to decide...what will it be. I've got one year to come up with something...time to go think.(674)

Let kids be kids

Hello Friends!

Here is an item up for debate today...grade school playground equipment and games. Are they dangerous. My mom tells me that she she was a kid, they had monkey bars, teeter totters, swings, really high slides and merry-go-rouds on their play ground. When they went to phyed class and sometimes for recess, they played four square, dodgeball, king on the mountain and red robin. Some of these items are no longer seen on play grounds and some games have been removed as school activities. Are they dangerous?

Sure kids occasionally get hurt playing some of these games, or playing on these playground equipment. But do people automatically assume that if one or two people get hurt doing something that they should be banned from school? Are they too protective? Why do we still have stores that sell bicycles then. Plenty of kids have gotten hurt riding their bicycles. Now you are asked to wear a helmet, but why didn't they consider this when they banned dodgeball?

Kids have fallen off of of skateboard, pogo sticks, roller skates and scooters, all of which are still 'legal' and sold in stores. But dodge ball is a came that we can no longer play, merry-go-rouds and teeter totters are mostly non existent on play grounds and we can't buy soda in school any longer.

Safety measures? Or are we listening to parents who will never allow their kids to be kids. You decide for yourself, but for me...I like to have fun!(251)

Fresh Fear

Hello fellow bloggers...

High school is the scariest thing when your an 8th grader. This is especially true if you go to a middle school where only maybe 10 kids decide to go to the high school you are going to go to. That means that fery few friends or people you have been with for the last three years are going with you. It's all going to be new. You walk in your first day not knowing where to go, and if you are really like me, you find yourself standing in the corner waiting for someone to talk to you. The 'best' moments of a first day of highschool:
  • walking into the wrong class and everyone looks at you
  • going around the corner and running right into someone
  • when all the juniors and seniors yell freshies at you
  • being late to class
  • sitting in someone elses seat
  • calling your teacher by the wrong name
Well here is what I have to say to all incoming freshmen, dont be afraid. Upper classmen are not that mean, and they have been in your same position. Plus, we all make it through it. Almost everyone is very nice and if you ask for help they would be happy to help you. I would hurry to class and at all costs try to avoid the foyer. If you need to, write down all your teachers names in your agenda. If you forget your seat just ask, its not a big deal.

As for homework. And always do it, even if your teacher doesn't collect it. It helps a lot to improve test scores and you never know when your teacher will suprise you and have you turn it in. Study in advance. Don't cram the night before. Your best bet is to study for a little while each night for like a week before your test. Pay attention and take lots of notes and always take your time on tests and quizes.

Highschool is not that scary million s of people do it and if you try hard and stay focused you will make it through no problem.(362)

Tie Blankets

Blogger friends...

Last year for Christmas was the year of making tied blankets. We live in the Mid West where as we all know, winters are very cold. My family are big NFL football lovers – Go Packer! Sunday afternoons, we go to church, come home and then make several different kinds of snack foods, and then migrate to the living room to watch football. BUT, we are always looking for blankets to stay warm under. So for Christmas, I made everyone their own blanket.

The first thing we did was go to the fabric store and picked out material for the blankets. That's the best part. I love looking through all the different patterns and colors of materials. People love it when you personalize there blankets with there favorite colors or sports team or pattern. For these blankets you need fleece which is a nice soft cuddly material. You need to purchase enough of each material to cover the person that you are making it for. You need two pieces so you can pick different colors, one for the front and one for the back. For instance, for my mom, I picked Packer material for one side and Badger material for the other. Our family is from Wisconsin so that should help you understand the material choice.

Next, you lay the two materials out on the table, one on top of the other. Then with a very sharp scissors, you make two inch cuts all away around the material about one inch apart. But only do one side at a time. This leaves a little strips around the material. When you are done making the cuts, you then start to tie the blanket. You tie the top layer and the bottom layer strip together. Make sure to tiem them well so the do not come apart. Tie all the way around the material. Once you are done tying, the blanket is done. It's as simple as that and you have a cute, warm and snuggly blanket. (337)

The Real Housewives

Hello fellow bloggers!

Do you ever watch reality TV? I'm hooked on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. It a show about women living in the New Jersey area who are rich and what their lives are like. Here is a quick discription of each character. Teresa is kind of crazy. She is loud and does know when she is telling the truth or not, but you can't help but feel sorry for her because everyone is against her. She has a hard time taking accuntability for her actions. She has several different business ventures including books that she has written and wines. She also loves being in or on the covers of magazines. Cathy is quiet and plays both sides. She is just getting into a baking business. Caroline is the oldest in the group but can be very rude. She trys to be everyone's mom and tell hem what to do and how to live. Some people call her a bully and sometimes I would have to agree. Jacqueline is the cry baby baby. When something little happens she tends to turn it into something big. I feel like she secretly likes all the attention on her. Melissa is my favorite. She tells things the way they are and she doesn't play two sides. She is working hard to have a singing career and shre is the kind of person who is like if someone has a problem with her she is like good for them, she doesnt really care.

I don't really know why I'm so addicted to watching this show but one thing I know for sure is that I wouldn't ever be like any of them. There is way too much drama and back stabbing for me, but it kind of intersting to see how the richer side lives. Everyone on the show cares so much about how they look and what labels they are wearing and then later you find out they have dug themselves into debt. Is this really how it is? It makes me wonder how their children will all turn out. Will they live the same way? All of their husbands have jobs but they seem like they aren't really running them on the up and up. Seems kind of shady to me.

Last week, we watched part one of the finale. It was difficult to watch because there was so much yelling and screaming that you could not understand what one was saying over the other. At times it gets really funny how immature these adult women get. They are worse then children. These women's lives are so different from the normal that its difficult to relate to at times. (450)

Show choir

Hello fellow bloggers!

Most people say that show choir isn't a sport... but whats the difference Do football or baseball players work harder then show choir kids? Are they more passionate? What are the differences...

Personally I dont think that sports are harder than showchoir. Before practices, we have a warm up and stretch period that everyone has to partake in. Our practices are run just like a sports practice and we work extensive hours and get few brakes. You need to have a high stamina to get through a whole show of dancing and singing. Most sports practices are a couple hours long and so are show choir practices, however, most sports practices aren't constant running. Show choir is constant dancing with singing at the same time. You need to be able to sing, dance and count so you know what to do when. In sports a lot of time there are certain spotlight positions that sometimes have to work harder than others, or the starting team works out more than the second time. However, in show choir the whole groups works out the same. One big difference is when they are competing. When baseball teams have a game, it usually lasts a couple hours. Likewise for a football game. When a show choir group goes to perform it sometimes is a twenty four hour time frame from the time they leave until they get home. In baseball and football, they play against one other team. Baseball sometimes has tournaments where there are more than one team playing, but in show choir there are several groups competing. The amount of players it takes in most sports is much less than in show choir where it takes forty eight to fifty two performers to put on a show.

Similartities are that you can get scholarships in both show choir and in sports, but sports scholarships tend to be better and offer more money or full rides. Both have a coach but in show choir is called a Director. Both require you to be in good shape and have a high stamina. They both require strong commitment and desire to succeed. They both allow for the team members to build bonds with each other that are very strong and create life long friendships and feel like a family. So there are some differences but not many or big differences so why...why do people say sports are harder and why is showchoir considered not a sport. (414)

City vs Country

Fellow Bloggers

Have you ever considered whether living in the country is better than living in the city or vice versa? There are obvious benefits to living in either place and depending on where you grew up tends to dictate which you prefer.

Living in the country brings clean air. There is no smog but there can be definite ordors in the air in the country. It is also much quieter. No sirens, cars racing past, horns or just ther normal city sounds. Country sounds include birds, wind/breezes, leaves blowing and at night crickets and tree toads. Country living allows you to grow your own produce in gardens. Something that can also be done in the city, but in the county it's typically on a larger scale. Neighbors are definitely not near as close to you as they area in the city. You can run and holler in your yard and not worry about offending anyone.

Downsides of living in the country are that you aren't as close to the stores as maybe you would like to be. Every thing requires that you have to drive a distance to get to it. There are also different types of wildlife that like to visit your yard. Deer will come and eat your flowers. Turkey, squirrel, rabbits and possum are just a few of the critters that will travel through your yard. Racoon like to make themselves at home in your garbage cans or anywhere they can cause a little mischief.

Living in the city puts you near everything. Movie theaters and stores, schools and libraries; everything is typically within just a couple minutes from you. There is always something to do and neighbors are abundant.

Living in the city also allows for noise. There is always a car racing by or an amnulance/police car with a siren going, a neighbors dog barking or other city noises that many get used to hearing. Crime is always something that one has to be concerned with. Locking doors is a must in the city.

A case could be made for either country or city living. It seems though that the harder, safer life is in the country. You work hard and sleep heavy. The easier, more dangerous life is in the city. Things are there are the touch of a finger, but you need to be leary of people you meet and make sure to protect everything you have or own. There is no right answer to the question, It all depends on your preferences and maybe how you were raised. For me, it's all about the country but not so far from the city that it's a pain to go to town. How about you?

Childhood :)

Time to blog again...

When you were little, did you believe in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy? Or did your parents just keep things on the up and up and tell you that there was no such thing and just give you the gifts themselves. Where did these tales come from; how did they get started? Do you remember your favorite Christmas?

I'm not sure of the origins of Santa Clause but I was told that it had a religious background and that the Dutch originally brought it to the America. I'm glad they or whoever did. Christmas has always been a favorite holiday of our family. I remember how I wondered and wondered for the longest time about how Santa could bring all those presents into the house and put them under the Christmas tree when we didn't have a fireplace and chimney for him to come down. It was also a favorite tradition to bake a batch of cookies and leave out a place full of them with a glass of milk for him to have when he came.

He always brought the right presents too. My brother and sister and I would sit and go through the catalogs circling the things that we wanted to get for Christmas. We'd tear out the pages and send them to the North pole about 2 weeks before Christmas. The hardest part was having to be good for two weeks without any slips in order to get all the presents on the list that we sent.

The Easter Bunny always came as well and he brought gifts as well. We couldn't figured out how he could bring the gifts because he was so small and didn't have a sleigh like Santa. Then our parents took us to the mall once to meet the Easter Bunny and then it all made sense. The Easter Bunny was big and could carry the presents to our house. He would come on Easter morning and leave eggs all over my grandma's yard that were filled with candy and money. After we opened our presents at our house, we would go to grandmas and find the eggs.

The Tooth Fairy was even more sneaky. Each of us had a pillow with a small pocket on the front of it. When we would lose a tooth, we would put the tooth in that little pocket and then the pillow would go under our pillow. Then, in the middle of the night, the Tooth Fairy would sneak in and take the tooth out of the pillow and leave money in its place. How the heck did that happen without us knowing! However it happened, we were always so excited to look under the pillow. As soon as we realized that one of out teeth were slightly loose, we worked and worked until that tooth came out so we could get the tooth pillow out and have more money to put in our piggy banks.

Funny the things that little kids believe in. Sad when we all grow up and those beliefs go away. Things were so much more fun when we were nieve little ones. Sometimes I think it was a happier time.

Politics (AKA annoying)

Hello blogger friends....

Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Conservative...are you tired of hearing about it and seeing it on TV? The ads...the ads...the ads....ENOUGH!! The sad part of it all is that the majority of what is said is only half truths to make things suit their needs.

For those of us who aren't old enough to vote, or maybe even the ones who are going to vote for the first time this year, it makes it difficult to even want to vote because of all the badgering of the parties. My mom has a rule about commercials. If the product in the commercial bashes a competitor, she won't purchase it. If the company has to stoop to the low level of talking bad about the competitor then it's not worth buying. Both companies are in the business of selling their product. They sould sell their product based on it's merits.

The same should go for the political field. The commercials just get so depressing. Each of the candidates should just give the facts and allow the public to make their choice on their own individual merits. If the have to stoop to the low blows, what are they showing us really? Does this show us that they will do a better job than the other if elected President? It doesn't and personnaly, I think they should stop already. The election is still over a month away. Allow us the time to see the positive things that they have done. Maybe put some ads on about that without bashing their competitor.(259)

Hello bloggers...

Ever watch Little House on the Prairie and wonder what life would have been like for you if you had lived back in those days. Laura Ingalls Wilder is an inspiration for many and her true life stories and books she wrote about them have taught many life lessons to many.

Growing up in the middle of the big woods had to be hard. But families back int those days didn't know any different. They lived by themselves with neighbors miles away and created their own entertainment. Their belongings were their prized posessions and meant the world to them, and in some cases, life or death. Now a days kids spend more time at their neighbors or friends homes than they do at their own. Spending time is borning and the only things to do by yourself are things that most don't want to do like clean your room. :)

People work hard to make money and buy things. But the difference now a days, especially with kids is that if it breaks, it's not a problem. We can always buy another one. It feels like unapreciativeness. We are a wasteful people now. Back in those days, things lasted from generation to generation.

If people had to milk a cow every morning by hand just to have a glass of milk, would they. If children had to walk to school for miles now adays, would they? Chopping firewood at night, cleaning the horse stalls, eating stew more than once a week...would you do it?

A life of simplicity has advantages. It teaches one true work ethic. It makes you appreciate the real things of value in life such as family. Things have changed drastically over the years. Things today are hectic and … electronic! No electricity back then. Could you have survived?

Blogger Friends...

Did you know that Wisconsin is the state that is referred to a “gods country”? It's beautiful there. It's one state in this country that truly has and changes through every season. In spring, the weather is wonderful. It stays between 40 and 60 degrees. It rains often which starts the grasses and trees growing. It's also the time that many women start to make plans for the flowers that they are planning to put in their flower beds for the year. It's fun to see all the different vendors get their green houses up, knowing soon the flowers will be shipped in and ready to be sold.

Squirrels and rabbits start to play in the fields and birds start to build their nexts. It's the time of the year when everything everything is reborn and everyone is playful from the long winter that just ended.

Summers in Wisconsin mean field work, baseball and camping. It's fun to load the car up, fill the tank with gas and go until you run out. When you get to that spot, that's where you pitch your tent. Camping in Wisconsin brings all kinds of excitement. Deer are plentiful and sometimes like to wander into your camp. Summer weather can be warm, and not much different than Iowa, just slightly cooler.

The end of spring into summer is beautiful due to all the flowers popping up, but truly fall is is one of the most colorful seasons in Wisconsin. Unfortunately it doesn't last long. It's the end of September into October when the leaves on the trees turn to most gorgeous colors. Thousands of people travel down the roads of Wisconsin just to see these colors. It's also a time of harvest. Apple orchards, gardens and corn fields prove to reaffirm all the work that has taken place through the spring and summer months. Moms can their produces and get ready for the winter months. Dads harvest their fields and store the rewards for the animals to have during the winter as well.

Winter is cold in Wisconsin. This is one tihng different from Iowa. Wisconsin gets more snow than Iowa, lower temperatures and can be somewhat windier. However, the people who live in Wisconsin know how to enjoy winters too. Snow skiing, ice skating, fort building...all things you will see everywhere. Wisconsin...a favorite place to go.

Homade Flour Tortillas :)

Hello bloggers!

Tonight, my mom and I made home made tortillas. Ever had them? They are the best. Nothing like what you get in the store. And they are really easy to make. There are only 4 ingredients needed to make them. Let me tell you what to do.

Flour, Salt, Water and Oil...that's all you need. When my mom cooks, she really doesn't use recipes. It's all by sight and feel. If I had to guess, I would say that she puts about 2 cups of flour on the counter. She doesn't use a bowl to do this. She takes about a half a teaspoon of salt and sprinkles it all over the salt. She makes a hole in the center of the flour and puts about 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in the hole. She then starts to work the flour into the oil. Using her fingers, she incorporates the oil into the flour. Once the oil is well incorporated, she then pours warm water, about ¾ of a cup into the flour which she has made another hole in the center of. She starts working the water into the flour. This forms the tortilla dough. She can feel from the dough whether it needs more flour or a little more water. Once the dough is just right, she breaks off pieces of dogh and makes small balls. Each dough ball will make one tortilla. She sprinkles a little flour on the counter and uses a wooden down as a rolling pin to roll out the tortillas.

The tortillas are cooked on a comal which is a heave metal flat pan. The cooking of the tortillas is the hardest part of the whole process. There are three flips to each tortilla and it's important thats all you do or they get hard. So once the tortilla is rolled out, it goes to the comal. It will start to have amall bubbles. Once the whole tortilla shows bubbles, it's time to flip it. The bubbles that were just created will now really blow up. If your tortilla doesn't have the bubbles, it's not going to be very good. Sometimes you can help the bubbling process by pressing on the tortilla. My mom uses a towel to press in just the rights spots softly. Where she presses, a bubble forms. Sometimes, she flips it back to the first side just to make sure that it's cooked al the way. When it's done, it goes to a rest on a towel an cool. Then the next tortilla goes to the comal! That's it other than to make something to put in the tortilla! Sometimes I like to butter the the tortilla and sprinkle sugar on it. Home made tortillas are the best.

Whooping Cough

Hello blogger friends...

Today I brought home a form from school for the Whooping Cough vacinnation. My parents want me to get it. I have shots! But my grandfather had whooping cough this year and it wasn't fun. It took the doctors a long time to finally figure out what he had. He knew he had a cough and thought it was just a cold. So he took cold medicine from the store. But then his cough got worse. So worse, that when he he would start coughing, he would cough and cough until he would pass out. The problem was that my grandfather is retired and doesn't work. So he would be home, start coughing, and pass out when no one was around. So he went to the doctor. The gave him some antibiotics. He thought this were going to get better. They didn't.

Still coughing, still passing out, feeling terrible. Finally one day, he passed out and when he woke up, he couldn't remember what had happened. It scared my grandmother so much that she made him go back to the doctor. They ran more tests and again, told him that it was just a cold. So as he was getting ready to leave, he started coughing, with the doctor in the office. Just as you would expect, he passed out right in front of the doctor! But this time he really did it good. When he went down, he went face forward. He broke his glasses, cut his head open and gave himself a black eye. He had to have stitches in his head and he tore the retina in his eye. But the doctor saw what happened and ran him through more tests. Whooping cough was the ultimate ruling. They gave him different medications and it took a while, but he finally got better. Trust me...I'm getting the vaccine!

Farmers Market

Hello Fellow bloggers!

Today, Was the last of this years Farmers Market downtowm. My mom and I have been looking forward to it for two weeks. It'll be the last time that we will be able to stock up on vegetables and produce that is fresh and home grown. So last night, we made sure to get to bed early so we could be ready to start buying when the market opened at 7:30 am. That was our goal anyway...

At 6:45, we were up and getting ready. We decided to take our dogs Bailey and Toby with us as they love to see all the other dogs that usually are there and they both needed the exercise. However, it was a brisk morning and Toby is a Chihuahua and Bailey is a Papillon...both small dogs. So we got each of them our an outfit to wear. Once we get them dressed, we went to put bows in Bailey's hair. That didn't go very well. She wouldn't sit still and Toby was really restless, so we finally just decided to leave them at home. Off we went. There were a few things that we knew we wanted to buy for sure, butwe were excited to see all the other things that would be there as well.

The biggest problem with going to a Farmers Market of this size (several city blocks) is that there are several vendors selling the same things and at different prices. So you need to make sure that you remember where you see things in order to get the best deals and not purchase from the first vendor you see. If you go the market every time they have it, most vendors are typically in the same place each time. If you have a vendor that you have purchased from in the past and their prices is good and their produce is great, you cand just go directly to them and not have to shop ot he other. Thats what we did. There is a Menonite group that sells fresh grown produce and its really nice produce. So we went there and got what we needed right away. That left us with time to just look at all the other things other than produce for the rest of the time that we were there.

We found a candy vendor and picked up some for my dads 'sweet tooth'. We also found a pasta vendor and purchase a 10 pound bag for $10. There was music for all to listen to, so we bought some breakfast burritos and sat and listened while we ate.

It was still cool by the time we finished up and headed back to the car. Hanging out at the market with thousands of peope and sun beating on you can make it not a fun time, but because we were there early enough, there was no heat to deal with. And now...home to make lunch....with some of our produce. Stuffed peppers for lunch...YUM! It's the best part of the Farmers Market...eating what we bring home.

Chickens

Hello Bloggers!

Did you know that raising chickens can be very exciting? Yep...who would have guessed. Chickens can actually make great pets. Every year, going to the store to pick out chicks is the highlight of spring. Picking out chicks can be very difficult. Think about it...how do you tell with something that small whether is't male or female?? Fortunately, the store takes care of that for you. The problem you will have is deciding which of the little cuties you want to take home with you.

There are hundreds of different kinds of chicks. One way you can choose is to look at the information that the store provides on what kind of eggs it will lay when it grows up. That is, if you are choosing chicks for layers. If you are getting chicks that you know you will butcher, then there are chicks specifically for that. However, one thing to keep in mind is that you will not want to get too attached to them as they are growing up if in fact you intend to butcher.

Once your chicks grow up, you will start to see how smart they actually are. Like clockwork, the chickens will go to their coop to settle in for the night as soon as the sun starts to set. You rarely need to search for them if they are free range chickens. Free range chickens means that they are 'free' to go where ever they want in your yard and are not kept in a cage. According to scientists, free range chickens have less stress causing more egg production or more tender chickens.

If you spend time with your chickens as they grow, they will not be afraid of humans. They will also become friendly and like to be held. In fact, they may even sit on your lap, follow you around the yard and even wake you in the mornings. Oops...that's the roosters that do that! :)

How to raise kittens

Hello fellow bloggers! :)

I love animals so today i thought i would write a blog about raising kittens. A few years ago, my mom and I found a newborn kitten that had lost it's mom. Let me share with you the trials of raising a kitten and learing now to become a mother cat without having had any experience.

This kitten was so small that it could be held in the palm of your hand. It's eyes were not yet open, so it was important to try and figure out it's age in order to start off on the right foot. You can try books and online information, but your best bet is to talk to someone at a pet store or a veternatian. When you think of newborn kittens, what do they do all day long? Sleep and eat. Usually there is more than one kitten in a litter and when they sleep, they get all piled up on one another in order to stay warm. They usually also have their mother all curled up around them. When yo u only have one kitten, you need to come up with a way to recreate that same warm environment. If you are keeping your kitten in a box, you can put a heating pad in it and keep it on low. Then take a towel and lay it over the heating pad. It's also a good idea to put some small stuffed animals in the box so that the kitten can curl up with them. Make sure that the box you are using has tall enough sides so that as the kitten grows, it is not able to jump out. If you don't have any stuffed animals to put in the box, you can use some small towels and roll them up and put in the box. This is extremely important if its only one kitten because they dont have their brothers and sisters to keep them warm.

When feeding a kitten you can go to any pet store and buy kitten formula and it will say on the back how much and how many times a day to feed them according to how old they are. The milk has to be warmed up just like you would for a human baby. After you feed your kitty or kittens they will probably have to go potty. When baby kittens are born they don't instinctively know how to go potty so there mom licks their bottoms as a stimulation to force the urge to go potty. You will need replicate this stumulation too. The best way to do this is to take a luke warm damp wash cloth and just continuously wipe there bottom until they go potty. It is best to do this with a white wash cloth so you see that they have gone. If you don't to this, they will get sick.

If you follow all of this soon enough you will have a full grown healthy cat. (506)

See ya later

Flowers

Hello Fellow Bloggers! :)

Have you ever gotten that urge sometime around the end of January where all you want to do it plant flowers in the yard. It happens ever year. Spending tons of time shopping and money on some of the coolest flowers is a great way to spend your money and time and to also makes your yard look amazing!

You probably have different flower beds in your yard, some in the front, some in the back and maybe on the sides. One of the things you need to remember or think about though is what colors you want where. Flowers come in many colors, but sometimes not in the colors you want for the areas you want to plant them. You also need to know what kinds of soil you have as well as how much sunlight you are going to get in that area. When finding plants usually on the back on the tags there is information on what helps the flowers to grow to its full potentialand you always want to pick the flowers thats needs best mach the kind of area you are putting the flowers in. Yards that have flower beds with all different kinds of flowers and colors all mixed together are not very attactive. It's a good idea to plant the taller flowers toward the back of the bed and the shorter flowers in the front. Making one bed full of pinks and reds and maybe another full of yellows and oranges is a great idea.

After they are planted, all that's left is the water! They need to be watered every day. If you dont like just soil around the flowers you can also add rocks to your flower bed or even wood chips. Wood chips come in a lot of different colors and you just have to choose by what looks better with your house. And voila! You have a beautiful garden for every one to see, and your neighbors will definantly be super jealous. (356)
See ya laterzz!! (:

Scrapbooking

Hello fellow bloggers!(:
One of my favorite pasttimes is scrapbooking. Have you ever done it? Once you start, it can become addicting. For those of you who have never scrapbooked, let me give you a quick tutorial on how to get stared. Once you get going, maybe someday you could join me and my mom at a scrapbooking event.

To get started, you are going to need a couple supplies. You'll need post it notes, small paper bags, a pen or marker, and maybe some cardboard dividers. For the bags, they don't need to be anything special. You could purchase those paper bags that kids use to take their lunches to school, or better yet, recycle some bags like gift bags, shopping bags....any bag will do. Then you need to find yourself a long table and of course...your pictures. The hardest part is going through all the pictures. You will need to split them up depending on what they were taken for. Let's just say for example, you have photos of your birthday party, a family wedding, a school event, your sisters graduation.... Each of these is a different event and get each gets a bag. Label the front of the bag with the event and put the photos in the bag. Depending on how may events you have, you could have a lot of bags.

Now comes the fun part...shopping! There are tons of things you can purchase to help you create your scrap books. You can purchase items at Walmart, specialty scrap booking stores, Hancock and JoAnn fabrics or even on line. There are may different assortments of scrapbook colors and sizes. You'll need to get a couple of them. They come with a colored cover and plastic page protectors on the inside. Then you'll need to get the sheets of paper that you put your photos on. They too come in different weights and colors, some with patterns and some with glittery designs on them. You might want to purchase them based on the event that you are going to use it for. For example, if you were going to make a baseball scrap book of your brothers games and awards, you might want to pick our a book that has the colors of his team, and sheets that are baseball related. You can also purchase stickers and there are many many stickers to choose from. You will need a special tape that is used to put the photos on the scrapbook page. They come in all different sizes and costs. That should get you started.

So, sort your photos. Then pick the event that you want to start with. Then get your book and you are ready to go. You can put your photos on the sheets however you like. You can put any stickers on the pages with the different photos to make it look neat. Once you have a page done, put it in your book and move on to the next page of photos. (501)

About Me

Hello fellow bloggers! (:
So my AP lang teacher gaves us the assignment of writing our first blog to let our readers know a litlle bit about who we are. I've been sitting here a little while really trying to think about how to answer this question. Who am I and how do I live my life? When I think about this question the quote that comes to mind is,

“You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.”
― William W. Purkey

I am a daughter, a sister, a friend, a neighbor, and a lover of animals. I am kind, conciderate and caring. I am very shy but around family and friends I am crazy. I am the girl who doesnt like when people are mad at her or dont like her. I am the girl to run around singing and dancing all hours of the day and night. I am the girl to run through my house with my brother wearing superman costumes. I am also the girl who wants to go to college, get a good job and have the thing most important to her, a family and a husband to kiss me when I come home from work at night. I the kind of girl who will sit at home with my hair up, no make up, and sweats and not care. However, when it's time to go out on the town, I am also the girl in a great dress, face and hair all done up. People will say what they want to say but it doesn't bother me. No ones opinion matters unless you let it.

I am in love with showchoir and love to be on stage. I try to do my best at every practice and especially when we are at a competition. I love to compete. I am the girl that hates to fail and will never give up. I always try hard in school and will do my best at anything I try. When I graduate from high school, my goal is to have a career in the medical field. I'm not exactly sure what yet, but I love to help people. I really hate the cold weather of the MidWest, so I am hoping to go to college somewhere really warm.

I am who i am.  If you like me good; if you dont go away and have a nice life.
Thanks for reading my blog (: (328)
Bye, Bye (:
